Punched Windows

« Back to Glossary Index

Punched windows” refers to individual window units installed into discrete openings in a primary wall construction (e.g., reinforced concrete, blockwork, or a rainscreen-backed wall), as opposed to a continuous glazed façade. In hotels, punched openings suit repetitive guestroom bays and are typically delivered as window units with perimeter air/water seals, flashings, and lintel/sill detailing, usually at lower cost and with simpler buildability than curtain walling.
